Josephine Boyne Obituary

Josephine “Irene” Boyne, 93, of Lee passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22nd at Mount Greylock Extended Care. Irene was born in Lee on March 19, 1931. She was the youngest of ten children born to John D. and Teresa Trovatelli Naventi. As a lifelong resident of Lee, she attended local schools, graduating from Lee High School in 1949. After graduating she worked for Frank P. Consolati Insurance Agency before leaving to raise her two daughters. She later worked as an administrative assistant and purchasing agent for the Hurlbut Paper Division of the Mead Corporation, retiring in 1996.

Irene married the love of her life, Thomas J. Boyne at St Mary’s Church on February 6, 1951. Together they loved dancing, snowmobiling, traveling to Italy, Alaska, Canada, and wintering in Florida with family and friends. An exceptional housekeeper, she was known for making her delicious Italian cookies and gnocchi.

Irene was a member of The G Marconi Lodge #1620 of The Sons and Daughters of Italy and a former member of St. Mary-Martha Sodality.

Irene was a good friend to those who knew her. She was a devoted and loving mother and Nina leaving her two daughters, Christine A. Davis (William C.) of Pittsfield and Nancy J. Mazut (Paul F.) of Becket; three cherished grandchildren, Stephanie D. Osterberg (Nic) of Cheshire, Nathan C. Davis (Shannon) of Feeding Hills and Matthew R. Davis (Molly) of Buda, Texas; five adored great grandchildren, Isla and Madeline Osterberg, Finn, Liam, and Brooklyn Davis and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, who died January 31, 2023, she was preceded in death by her brothers; Henry “Rico” Naventi, Paul Naventi, Herman Naventi, John Naventi, Julius “Mickey” Naventi, George Naventi, Louis Naventi and sisters, Mary Masiero and Katherine Bona.  

The family would like to thank the staff of Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility and Hospice for their exceptional and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Berkshire Humane Society or Hospice Care in the Berkshires. Checks made out to either may be mailed in care of Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.

FUNERAL NOTICE- The funeral for Josephine N. Boyne, who died April 22, 2024, will be held at St. Mary’s Church on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, 10AM with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Brian McGrath, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening, 4-6PM at the Kelly Funeral Home.
