Jesse Romeo Obituary

Jesse W. Romeo, 70, of East St. in Lee, died peacefully on Dec. 4th at the UMASS Hospital in Worcester with his family at his bedside He was born in Pittsfield on May 29, 1940 the son of the late Lenox Police Chief Anthony W. Romeo and Lorna A. Walden Romeo. He was educated in the Lenox Schools, a member of the class of 1959 and was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 until he was honorably discharged in 1965. After the service he was employed at Peter J. Schweitzer Paper Co in Lee. He then went to work for George Van Zandt Metal Fabrication in Lenox Dale. There he learned the trade he was best known for, welding. In 1971 he went to work for "Buzzy" Wellington owner of Industrial Welding in Lenox Dale. He was last employed by George Van Zandt Jr., as a Master Pipe Fitter and Head Foreman until retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Western Mass A.T.V. Association, a former member of the Lenox VFW and Lee Sportsmen's club. Jesse most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing , camping, ATV trips to Canada and working on his computer. He leaves his wife the former Alice A. Bienvenue whom he married October 26, 1963. He also leaves his son Jesse Dean Romeo of Dalton, his daughter Antoinette "Toni" Wood and her husband Robert of Lee; two brothers, his twin Joseph A. Romeo of Lenox and Francis J. Romeo and his wife Bernadette of Pittsfield; two sisters Pricilla A. Costi of Pittsfield and Shirley A. Bienvenue and her husband Camille of Southwick. Jesse also leaves his beloved grandchildren James and Nicholas Wood. Jesse's funeral will be held Friday morning Dec.10th at 9:15 from the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee, with a liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Ann's Church in Lenox, with the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lee. Visiting Hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers friends wishing may make donations to the Scleroderma Foundation in care of the Kelly Funeral Home 3 Main St. Lee, MA 01238.
