Daniel M. Hunter, 71 of 28 Elm Street Lenox Dale, died Friday March 1, 2013 at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Pittsfield on May 11, 1941 the son of Robert J. and Margaret "Rosie" Curtin Hunter. He attended Lee schools and was president of his Lee High School graduating class in 1959. During his high school years he played basketball and football. In football he was both All Berkshire and All Western Massachusetts. He graduated in 1964 from American International College in Springfield. He was a member of the 42nd Special Infantry of the Marine Corp. Reserves. Dan was an ambitious business man throughout his life. He owned and operated the Lenox Oil Company, Danco Snowmobiles in Lenox Dale, Berkshire Nautilus Center in Pittsfield and Diesel Dan's in Lee. In his spare time he could be found standing in a hockey rink across the northeast watching one of his son's game. He also enjoyed vacationing in Maine and Florida with his family. He leaves his wife the former Katherine "Kathy" Monachina whom he married on June 15, 1963; two sons, Daniel R. Hunter and his wife Elaine of Lee, Jeffrey S. Hunter and his wife Kathy of South Hampton, MA; two daughters Susan R. Hunter and her husband Donald DeAngelus of Washington, MA and Stephanie A. Laughnane and her husband Chris of Lenox Dale; two brothers David C. Hunter and his wife Elaine of Lenox and Robert F. Hunter and his wife Shelda of Albuquerque, NM; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Hannah, Melissa, Noah, Abigael, Joshua, Owen, Ava and Wyatt and his beloved grand-dog Daisy. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren as a loving, caring and nurturing Papa. The funeral for Daniel M. Hunter will be held on Wednesday March 6th at 10am at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee, with the Rev.Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Lenox Dale officiating Burial will follow at St. Ann's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday March 5th from 4-7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Soldier On or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
