Elizabeth M. (Betty) Leahey died on October 14, 2026, at 96 years of age. She was born at home on the family farm on July 28, 1930, and lived there all her life. Her parents were Thomas C. and Mary M. Leahey. She was dedicated to the farm, hiked all 400 acres frequently, and managed farm affairs for over 50 years.

She was educated at Bradley St., St. Mary's, Lee High, Our Lady of the Elms, and North Adams, and had Master's Degrees in education. She loved literature and math, and taught special education and volunteered at religious education.

She was active in other volunteer organizations, and was a town representative for decades. Betty also taught at army bases in France, and traveled extensively in Europe, especially Ireland.

She was predeceased by three brothers, and is survived by two brothers, Maurice (Mary) and James (Jane) as well as six nieces and nephews and all 12 of their children.

She remained active and did as much outdoor activity as possible, and rode horseback, ice skated, skied, and hiked as long as she was able, well into her advanced years. She never lost faith in God, defended family and the farm, and loved her ancestors and all of her family, especially the kids.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Betty will be held on Thursday, October 22, at 11:00 at Saint Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday morning at the church from 9:30 to 10:45. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty's memory to Saint Mary's Church, in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA 01238.
