Obituary

Florence Barton Pleu, 84, formerly of Washington Mtn. Road, Lee, MA died peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at Providence Care Center of Lenox, MA with family members at her side. Flossie was born in Otis, MA on November 2, 1928, daughter of Franklin and Florence Barton Smithies. She graduated from Lee High School in 1946. She married "the love of her life," William Joseph "Junie" Pleu on January 29, 1949, with whom she was a devoted wife and mother for 27 years. Junie passed away in 1976. An avid college basketball fan, she was passionate about her sports! That passion was driven from many years of walking to Lee High School, supporting her children's activities, and rarely ever missing a game, with basketball being her most-loved sport. A Friday night Bingo player at St. Mary's School in Lee, or wherever Bingo might be played that night, Bingo was "her" thing. Cards with family, or whoever might walk through the door, as well as reading (when she had her vision) were her favorite pastimes. Card games sometimes would go into the wee hours of the night, from Rummy to Scat, she was never the first to leave the table, more likely the last! In her early years with Junie, she loved playing cards with their friends, therefore, it went on to become a known family tradition, when any part of the Pleu family were together, by the end of the evening, cards would be played. Flossie loved those family card days/nights, whether they were large or small, if family was by her side, she was happy. Always looking for a way to find herself at the "casinos," she loved her slot machines. From Foxwoods to Vegas, at any given time if you said, 'casino,' you had better have a plan, as she was ready to get in the car and quite frankly wondered, "What was taking everyone so long?!" It was her family that became her only pastime as her vision declined. They are whom she waited for, in her chair, by the window, with her phone, waiting to see who she "had to beat" in the next game of cards or simply whose "ringer" was coming through to hear what was going on within each of her children's' lives. Flossie was a Store Clerk for H.A. Johansson and Paperdilly, both in Lee. She was also a homemaker and loving mother to her and Junie's seven children, thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, all of whom she leaves behind with limitless, beautiful memories. She is survived by her only son, William Joseph "Junie" Pleu, Jr. and his wife, Shelly, of Canton, GA and her six daughters; Florence Jane Barbini and her husband, Richard, of Edgartown, MA, Robin Francis Brown and her husband, David, of Lee, MA, Colleen Elizabeth Tomlinson and her husband, Earl, of Mildred, PA, Joyce Pleu Schiff and her husband, Andrew, of Holliston, MA, Mikki Buckland and her husband, Robert, of Rockland, ME, and June Ellen Mullen and her husband, Stephen, of Holly, MI, her thirteen grandchildren; Ryan and Lisa Barbini, Sean, William "Junie III", and Michael Pleu, Ashley Gaze, Lindsay Knopp, Melanie Shean, Meghan, Bryan, and Peter Brown, Heather Tomlinson, Suellen June Detamore, Alli Buckland and Thomas Barton and Daniel Bentrup Mullen and her great-grandchildren; Taylor and Phoebe Jane Barbini, Cody, Harrison and Hudson Pleu, Sierra Besanceney and Cameron Tyer, Owen Brown, Audrey Gaze, Jacob and Wyatt Shean. She also leaves behind one sister, Joyce Morhmann and her husband, Richard of Nashua, NH, and one sister-in-law, Gertrude Pleu Fresia of Lee, MA. She is predeceased by a sister, Marion Hunter. Waitekus, pastor of St. Ann's Church in Lenox, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lee. Visiting hours will precede the service on Friday morning from 10 to 11.
