Francis Peter Bona, 51, of Pleasant Street, South Lee, died Thursday, November 14 as a result of an industrial accident. Fran was born in Pittsfield, MA on January 21, 1962, the son of Dora Albertazzi Bona and the late Adam Bona. He was educated in Lee Schools, graduating from Lee High School in 1979. Fran served in the United States Army from 1982 to 1984. Following his military service, Fran worked at Townsend Mobil in Lee and the Mass Turnpike. He was a roofer for many years, working for Briggs Roofing and Fairview Roofing. He was also a long time employee, working part time at the East Lee Package Store. Fran was in a bowling league at Lee Bowling Lanes for many years and currently played in the Wednesday night Pitch League at Bucky's in Lee. Fran was a devoted Bruins fan, who also loved the ocean, traveling, dancing and spending time with his family. In addition to his mother, Fran leaves his wife, the former Christina M. Scolforo, whom he married May 24, 2003, and his son, Michael A. Bona of Lee. He is also survived by one brother; Adam Bona and his wife, Patsy, of Sun City, AZ, and five sisters; Alice Hitchcock of Egremont, Mary Palmer and her husband, Richard, of Lee, Diana Wellington and her husband, Albert, of Lee, Joanne Guttmann and her husband, Robert, of Lenox Dale, and Cathy Williams of Lee, as well as two sisters-in-law; Cindy Fresia and her husband, Tom, Monica Haraburda and her husband, J.J., and one brother-in-law, Mike Scolforo and his wife, Melissa. He also leaves his loving dog, Lucy. Fran is predeceased by two brothers-in-law; Theodore Hitchcock and Walter Williams and a niece, Melissa Bona. A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Francis Bona will be held Tuesday, November 19 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday, November 18 from 4-7 p.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA 01238. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make memorial donations to the Michael Bona Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home.
