Obituary

Irene J. Masiero, 95, formally of Prospect Street in Lee, passed away peacefully Friday at Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox. Born December 29, 1919 to Jacob and Catherine Zagota Jamros, Mrs. Masiero was educated in the Adams schools. Following her marriage to Angelo Masiero in November of 1941, they relocated to Lee. Mrs. Masiero worked for many years as a supervisor in the mail room and at the gift shop at the Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, retiring in 2005. Mrs. Masiero was predeceased by her loving husband Angelo in 1975. She leaves behind her son; Gerard Masiero and his wife Sarah of Pittsfield, and her daughter; Nelia Aldrich and her husband Fred of Brownsville, NY. In addition, she leaves 5 grandchildren; Leanne, Melissa, Jason, Gerard and Peter as well as 2 great-grandchildren; Grace and Emma. Irene "Missy" Masiero was one of the last representatives of a bygone era that encompassed Lee, Massachusetts in its neighborhood heyday, an era in which neighbors were like family and everyone knew who their kinfolk were for generations. In this age of high technology and impersonal communication, she was our security and comfort; our steadying hand and true backbone. A memorial service will be held at the Kelly Funeral Home 3 Main Street in Lee on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lee.
