Neil M. Merwin, 75, of Fuller St. in Lee, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Berkshire Medical Center with his family at his side. He was born in Pittsfield, MA on June 1, 1938 the son of Paul and Katherine Hinman Merwin and was a 1957 graduate of Lee High School. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until 1960 and was discharged with the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. After the service Neil worked as a custodian for the Lee School System retiring in 2000 from Lee High School. He was a member of the Lee School Building Committee in the construction of the current Lee Middle School and High School. Neil was a charter member and E.M.T. on the Lee Ambulance Squad and was the oldest active E.M.T. in the State. He served as an E.M.T. at all Lee Sports events until April of this year. He loved his town and devoted many years of service to his community. Neil leaves his wife, the former Kathryn "Trina" Finn, whom he married October 8, 1966, one son, Scott N. Merwin and his wife, Tish, of Pittsfield, one daughter Stacy L. Mihlek and her husband, Paul, of Lee, one brother Bruce Merwin and his wife, Margaret, of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren Gina, T.J., Mason, Ashley, Kristen, Shelby, Michael, Kaleigh, and Cheyenne and one great grandchild, Shiya. The Funeral for Neil will be private. Visiting hours at the Kelly Funeral Home will be Friday from 4-7.
