Richard L. Haviland Jr., 70, of East Street in Lee, died Thursday morning at the Laurel Lake Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Lee. He was born in Chatham, NY on May 26, 1945, the son of Richard and Margarette Merritt Haviland Sr. He moved to Pittsfield as a child and graduated from Pittsfield High School. Later in life he received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts. Mr. Haviland worked at the Berkshire Eagle as an Engraver and he enjoyed fishing and photography. He is survived by his wife, the former Marlene Wylie whom he married on May 25, 1968. A son; Scott Haviland and his wife Katie of Pittsfield, a sister; Rhonda Nelson and her husband Bob of New Lebanon, NY, two brothers; John Haviland of Texas and Tom Haviland and his wife Jo-Ellen of Vermont, two grandchildren Jack Richard Haviland and Alayna Cathleen Haviland of Pittsfield. Richards family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Suburban Medical Center, the nursing staff at Laurel Lake Center and the staff in the I.C.U. at Berkshire Medical Center as well as the rest of the family for their support.
