Rita A. Nanasy, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2014, at Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox, MA. She was born in Long Island City, NY on December 4, 1930, the daughter of Stephen Nanasy. Her mother passed away when Rita was a child. Rita graduated from high school in Long Island City, NY and as a young woman moved to Port Washington, NY, where she was instrumental in the opening of the first Head Start Pre-School Program in that area. She was employed in various positions during her more than twenty years at Publishers Clearing House. Rita was passionate about music, loved to dance and enjoyed being near the water. She is survived by her son, Blaise Gregory, of Lenox, MA Calling hours for Rita Nanasy will be held on Tuesday, January 14 from 4-7 PM at The Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA. Services and burial will be private. Friends wishing may make memorial donations in Rita's honor to Parents Resource Center of Port Washington in care of the funeral home.
