Walter H. Alter, 85, of Lee, died Monday January 26, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield with his family at his side. He was born in Lee, on August 6, 1929 the son of George and Mae Blonde Alter and attended the Lee Schools. Walter was an avid outdoors man, who enjoyed skeet shooting, water and snow skiing and snowmobiling. He was a former member of the Lee Sportsmen's Club and Ski Patrol at Jiminy Peak. He was also a member and former President of the Lee Kiwanis Club and was involved with the Key Club. He was known for his laughter and sense of humor. Walter had worked as a machinist at G.E. Plastics in Pittsfield and later, along with his brother George, owned Alter Brothers. Walter then went on to own and operate Alter Sales and Service. He was predeceased by his wife the former Ruth Morey, whom he married June 25, 1949. He leaves his son Daniel Alter of Lee; two daughters, Donna Navarro and her husband Ricardo of Windham, NH, Debra Alter of Lee and his brother George "Bud" Alter of Lee. Walter also leaves five grandchildren: Alexandria, Kayla and Sarah MacDonald, Justin and Christian Navarro, as well as three great grandchildren: Calvin, Danayah and Makyah. He also leaves his nephew Michael Alter, and his nieces Patty Alter, Sheron McCormick and Victoria Morey. He was predeceased by his sisters Joicy Heath and Dorothy McCormick. Services will be private for the family.
