Barbara Clayton Obituary

Mrs. Barbara L. Clayton, 90, of Otis, passed away at home on Monday, November 8, 2021, surrounded by family.

She was born August 7, 1931, in Lynn, MA, the daughter of Ralph and Hazel Gosse Gleason. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Hingham High School and a 1952 graduate of Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing.

Barbara’s early career had her in Germany where she worked as an R.N. on a military base in the 1950’s. After returning stateside she worked at various doctor’s offices and hospitals and finished her career at the Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home in Great Barrington, where she worked for many years.

Mrs. Clayton enjoyed knitting, crocheting and was a jigsaw puzzle master. Barbara had great faith and was a member of the Hope Church in Lenox. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. She was often heard saying that her greatest accomplishment were her two children.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her two sons: Raymond Utenis and his wife, Heidi, of Otis and Richard Utenis and his wife, Karen, of Winchester Center, CT; her three grandchildren: Rebecca, Benjamin and Kathryn Utenis; six great-grandchildren; her two stepsons: Carey Clayton and Neale Clayton, Jr; her four stepdaughters: Joan Johnson, Mary Both, Trudy Clayton and Jodie Clayton; her brother, Ralph E. Gleason and his wife, Jane, of Otis; and her sister, Lois Grundstrom and her husband, Roger of Hot Springs SD.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Barbara Clayton will be on Friday, November 12, 1PM at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee. Burial will follow in the Otis Cemetery. A Visiting Hour will be held from 12 Noon until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA 01238.
