Barbara Tart Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we say good-bye to our precious Mom, Gram, Mima and GG, Barbara Mary Tart who passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Born November 30, 1930 to Harold M. and Sarah Gibbons Dunham in Pittsfield, MA, she graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1948 and attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 62 years, Richard Tart I, her son-in-law David Scarpa, Sr., grandson Michael Andrews and three brothers, Harold, Larry and Kenny and stepmother Blanche Dunham.

She is survived by her seven children: Sally (Doug) Wilcox, Suzanne Scarpa, Sandy (James) Salice, Michele (Tom) Martinez, Margaret “Peg” (Sam) Wheeler, Mary (Tim) Whalen and Richard (Melissa) Tart, her 19 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.

She had many part time jobs over the years, then overcame a debilitating stroke at the age of 56. She went on to work until the age of 74. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her family and read voraciously.

Per Barbara’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 11 AM. A reception line will follow the funeral Mass at the Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care of the Berkshires in care of Kelly Funeral Home.

Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not. Forever in our hearts and minds.
