Obituary

Barrymore “Barry” Hawley left this life to join our Lord on January 14, 2023; 16 days short of his 80th birthday. Born on January 30, 1943, to Henry H. Hawley and Laura Bossie Hawley, he and his twin brother, Bruce, were the final children of 11.

He was raised in Otis and educated in Otis and Lee School systems, graduating from the Cambridge School of Business.

Barry met Adele Blackledge at the age of 13 and they courted through high school and college, marrying on April 11, 1964, celebrating nearly 59 years of marriage. They lived in Lee and Otis, renovating homes, collecting antiques, and completing many, many furniture restoration projects.

Early in his career Barry was a bookkeeper, but quickly established a name for himself as a very talented interior designer at E. Caligari and Sons, where he was employed for four decades. He always had a love for the town of Otis and in 1976, commemorating the bicentennial, wrote and published the book Our Otis Heritage.

Together Barry and Adele raised 5 children and his 8 grandchildren were the light of his life. He enjoyed attending as many of their activities as possible, with more basketball games than we can count. He has left this world a better place than when he came and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends

Barry was predeceased by six brothers, Henry, Richard, Donald, Peter, Ronald, and Bruce Hawley and three sisters, Mary Hawley Silkey, Lorraine Hawley Dombkowski, and Joyce Hawley Duris. He is survived by one remaining sibling, Pauline Hawley Laudon of Lee.

Besides his wife Adele, Barry is survived by four children, who will continue to honor his beautiful life: Kristin Hawley-Johnson (David), Matthew Blackledge-Hawley (Christine), Maureen Brighenti (Chad) and Meghann Hawley (Paul). He was predeceased by his eldest child, Heather.

Barry also leaves his 8 grandchildren, whom he adored: Noah and Olivia Johnson, Karen Hernandez, Aiden and Carissa Blackledge-Hawley, Max and John Brighenti and Finleigh LePrevost.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Lee.  Burial will be in the Spring at Otis Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be on Thursday, January 19th ,  from 4-6 PM at the Kelly Funeral Home.   Friends wishing may make donations in his memory to the Heather Hawley Scholarship Fund in c/o the Kelly Funeral Home    3 Main Street   Lee, MA   01238.
