Bernard “Bernie” Richard Majewski passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026. He was born in Great Barrington in September 1933, the eldest son of Benjamin and Honorata “Dorothy” Trzesniewski Majewski. He grew up in Housatonic and graduated from Searles High School in Great Barrington in 1951.
After graduation, Bernie entered the General Electric Apprentice Course for Drafting in Pittsfield. In 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of corporal while stationed at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. In 1957, Bernie served on the honor guard for President Eisenhower’s second inaugural parade. A month later, Bernie met the love of his life, Agnes Marie Sheehan, at a church dance. After he was honorably discharged in early 1958, Agnes and Bernie were married in Washington, D.C., November 29, 1958.
Bernie and Agnes moved to Pittsfield and he returned to the General Electric Company, where he worked in the Ordinance Department until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club.
While working at General Electric, Bernie attended night school at the University of Massachusetts and North Adams State College, earning his BA in mathematics in 1970.
Bernie and Agnes made their home in Lenox Dale since 1960 and, after retiring, spent winters in Melbourne Beach, Florida. He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul in Lenox Dale and St. Ann's in Lenox, and a member of the former Cranwell Vineyard community Jesuit church in Lenox.
Bernie was a gate attendant at Tanglewood in Lenox for 40 years, retiring at the conclusion of the 2021 summer season. He also worked as a course ranger at the former Cranwell Golf Course in Lenox and ran a Wednesday morning senior men's golf league at Greenock Country Club in Lee.
Bernie was an avid trout fisherman and golfer. He also enjoyed puzzles, card games, Sudoku, and Rummikub, and shared all of his interests with his children and grandchildren. In his years of recreational golfing, Bernie achieved the feat of a hole-in-one…twice.
Bernie is survived by Agnes, his beloved wife of 67 years, and his six children: Brian Majewski (Sally); Maureen Engle (Philip); Andrew Majewski (Lisa); Diane Bognar (Jeff); Carol Majewski (David Fremont); and Sharon Musto (Armand). He was predeceased by his brother Richard, who passed away in October 2023. Bernie was the proud Dzia-Dzia of Benjamin Majewski, Molly McAuliff (Drew), Justin Engle (Jennie), George Bognar (Katie Eichenberger), Samuel Majewski (Justine), Rachel Mendoza (Michael), Juliana Moorhouse (Dave), Milo Fremont, David Engle (Blaney), Greta Fremont (Timothy Libman), Jozie Bognar, Dean Musto, and Ross Musto; and great-grandfather of Luke, Mia, Zellie, Brooke, and Asher McAuliff, Maeve Bognar, and Jude Engle.
The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who so lovingly assisted Bernie over the last six years, allowing him to remain in his home until the last few months of his life.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Bernard Majewski will be held on Thursday, May 21, at 11:00 at St. Ann’s Church in Lenox, with Msgr. John Bonzagni officiating. Burial will be private for the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernie’s memory to the Lenox Food Pantry, in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA 01238.
