Bertha Marie Coady, 80 retired CNA

Bertha Marie (Krawczyk) Coady, 80, of 1230 Lovers Lane Rd Washington, passed away on Friday September 20, 2019 surrounded by her family.

Born in New Haven, Conn., on November 23, 1938, daughter of John and Bertha M (Ptashek) Krawczyk, she was educated in local schools in New Haven Conn. She made her home in Connecticut until moving to Washington Ma with her husband James E. Coady Sr. in 2000.

Early on in her life she worked as a bookkeeper, and then she focused her role as a homemaker and stayed at home to raise her children. At a later time in life she decided to change her profession and went back to school to become a CNA, she did private duty and was loved by all her patients for her compassion and special qualities in handling their special needs. She retired to care for her husband when he took ill.

While in Connecticut she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and Clinton. She was most recently a communicant of St. Mary’s church in Lee.

Babcia enjoyed cooking, especially the polish dishes. She loved her books and was an avid reader, enjoyed all variety of music, watching her videos’ when her grandchildren were young and now viewing their children, her Great Grandchildren. She was known as Mrs. Kodiak because she loved to take pictures and videos.  Roses were her favorite flower and she enjoyed gardening in her vegetable garden. She loved to Polka and dance with her husband, loved sports; Baseball, Football and Basketball were her favorites. She was a Patriots fan and a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan.

She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Coady Sr., whom she married back on September 17, 1955.

Besides her daughter, Cheryl A. Powers of Becket and son James E. Coady Jr. of Washington, other survivors includes a granddaughter, Jessyca A (Powers) Goetze of Pittsfield, twin grandsons James E. Coady III of Wallingford, Ct. and Robert W. Coady Meriden, Ct., six great-grandchildren, Perrin Petell and Jaxon Goetze of Pittsfield, Jamie, Holly, and Mason Coady of Wallingford, Ct. and Audrey Coady of Meriden, Ct., one sister, Dorothy Pogwizd of Clinton, Ct.

She also leaves several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph R. Krawczyk, US Army.

Funeral Services for Bertha Coady will be held Monday, September 30, 11AM at St. Mary’s Church in Lee. Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Visiting Hours will be held on Monday from 9 – 10:30AM at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee.
