Charlotte MacDowell Obituary

Charlotte A. (Thompson) MacDowell passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the age of 70.

She was born on December 30, 1954, in Beverly, MA, where she spent her childhood and met the love of her life, her husband of 43 years, Randall A. MacDowell.  Within a few years of meeting Randy, they moved to his hometown of Lee, MA, where they married, planted their roots, made a home of love together, and welcomed all.

Charlotte had many interests.  She especially enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, crocheting, music and the arts, as well as following her cherished sports teams, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.  She was an avid Christmas cookie maker, creating a Christmas cookie weekend tradition with family and friends.  Having grown up on the Atlantic coast, she had a life-long affinity for the ocean.  Charlotte retired from her vast career with the Berkshire Medical Health System.

Charlotte was a fierce advocate and supporter to those she loved.  She gave of herself willingly, freely, and often.  Many fondly referred to her as their second Mom.

Charlotte leaves behind two daughters, Kathy (MacDowell) Shakley and family, and Michelle (MacDowell) Araujo and family; her mother Gladys J. (MacIntyre) Thompson; her brother Richard A. Thompson and family; her sister Mary R. (Thompson) Cercone and family; her brother Walter G. Thompson and family; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and in laws.  Charlotte and Randy also had a special granddaughter-like relationship with Elianna.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband Randy, her father Robert L. Thompson Jr., and her sister Robyn L. (Thompson) Sawyer.

Visiting hours will be from 3:00p to 4:45p, followed by a brief service, on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee, MA.  Burial will be private.

~ You Worked So Hard and Did So Much
We know you wonder sometimes if anyone really appreciates the efforts you make on all those uphill climbs.  Day in and day out you make the world a better place to be.  And the people who are lucky enough to be in your life are the ones who get to see that you’re a very wonderful person with a truly gifted touch.  You’re a special person who deserves more thanks than this could ever say, and you’re appreciated so much.
