David J. Goulart, a beloved partner, uncle, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on April 20, after a long illness. The world is a sadder place without him, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born in Brazil, David came to the United States as a young man, eventually making Boston his home. Those early years were filled with adventure, as he embraced new experiences and lived life to the fullest. It was during this time that David discovered his passion for cooking. A kitchen, he often said, was his "paradise." His career as a healthcare food service director allowed him to share that passion, bringing comfort, joy, and care to both his colleagues and the residents he served.
Thirty years ago, David discovered his greatest passion of all, his life partner, Mitchell Q. Sellers. Their journey together began in Winthrop, MA, and later led them to the Berkshires, where David found both peace and joy in the beauty of the natural surroundings. There, he also embraced one of his most cherished roles, as a devoted "uncle" to a black lab named Henry.
David and Mitchell shared a vibrant life together, from their early days exploring Boston's South End - shopping for fine meats and cheeses and enjoying Broadway shows, to building a home filled with love and laughter, often alongside the many big, beautiful dogs they raised over the years.
David was the youngest of four children born to the late Maria Helena J. Goulart and Natal Goulart. He is survived by his brother, Claudio Goulart, and his sisters, Monica Goulart de Aguiar and Luciana Goulart, all of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces, Tatiana and Marcella, and the late Isabella, with whom he shared a special bond.
David was proud to become a United States citizen, while always holding close his deep love for his native Brazil, which he enjoyed visiting whenever he could.
David will be remembered for his warmth, his passion for life, his generous spirit, and the deep love he shared with those closest to him. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
