David Simmons Obituary

David B. Simmons, son of the late George Simmons and Dorothy (Cheney) Simmons of Lee, and brother to the late Peter Simmons Sr. of Lee; passed peacefully in his home on Friday, September 30th. David was born April 16, 1947 at Pittsfield General Hospital. He was a graduate of Lee High School, also attended Berkshire Community College – and later attended Westfield State College where he received his Bachelor of Science in Finance.

David served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970 where he was part of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) – 5th Battalion / 7th Cavalry. He served an active tour of duty in the Vietnam War as a Sergeant E5; and was a radioman. His military decorations include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and numerous others.

His beautiful life will forever be celebrated with his wife: Lynn (Barr) Simmons of Lee; his children, Jennifer (Simmons) Mack of West Stockbridge; Benjamin Simmons of Guilford, CT; and stepson Barry March of Pittsfield. He also leaves behind his son-in-law Steven Mack of West Stockbridge, and five grandchildren: Sydney Mack of West Stockbridge, Ian Mack of West Stockbridge, Madison March of Pittsfield, along with Elsy Simmons and Evann Simmons of Guilford CT. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law MaryAnn Simmons and Carol Crawford, along with their children.  He will also be missed by his dog Max.

David’s career was in finance, and he worked for the Kimberly-Clark Corp. / SWM from 1970-2002, where he was a Cost Analyst and Control Coordinator.  Following his retirement in 2002, David spent time working with his friends at Carberry (Bunnell) Auto Parts until 2012, and Berkshire Hills – Leisure Lee through the summer of 2022.  He also filled his time with many organizations and personal hobbies/passions including: the Berkshire Museum Camera Club – where he served as VP from 2017-2019; authoring a book in 2011 - Our Turn to Serve – An Army Veteran’s Memoir of the Vietnam War; playing his Stonebridge guitar; photographing his family, friends, wildlife and landscapes; and taking his road trips with his friend Charlie – which he always posted about and referred to as ‘On the Road with Charles…’.  We will all miss seeing his inspiring thoughts and images.
