Edith (Engelhardt) Deeg

Edith (Engelhardt) Deeg, 86, of Deep River, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, with her daughter by her side at Ocean Meadow Senior Living & Memory Care in Clinton, Connecticut.

Edith was born on July 25, 1939, in Stuttgart, Germany. Despite enduring the hardships and horrors of World War II during her early childhood, she built a life defined by creativity, resilience, faith, and an unwavering love for her family. Her remarkable ability to turn challenges into opportunities became a hallmark of her life. With determination, keen intellect, and an entrepreneurial spirit, she successfully pursued several small real estate ventures that supplemented her life's work of caring for her family and helped provide for those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her beloved partner, Rudi Deeg, who passed away in 2009; her son, Andrew Deeg, who passed away in 1984; and her cherished sister, Brigitte Löwy Engelhardt, who passed away in 2018.

Edith is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Anita Deeg-Carlin, and her son-in-law, Christopher Carlin, whose playful banter and shared sense of humor brought her endless joy. She also   leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Mikaela Carlin and Kai Carlin, who inherited her curiosity, adventurous spirit, and appreciation for the world around them. Many members of her extended family continue to reside in Germany, while her beloved nieces, Michèle Chan Page and Pascale Bivi, and their families remain in her longtime home of Zurich, Switzerland.

A gifted artist and enthusiastic designer, Edith had an extraordinary eye for beauty and maintained impeccable standards in both her home and her life. During the last decade of her life, she dedicated herself to mastering the art of fused glass. She was equally famous among family and friends for her legendary potato salad, her quick wit, and her sense of humor. She especially delighted in playing pranks, particularly on her beloved son-in-law, Christopher, who happily returned the favor whenever he could.

Her Christian faith was a guiding force throughout her life. As a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, she found strength, purpose, and community through her many years at Hope Church in Lenox and other churches along the way.

Edith will be remembered for her generosity, determination, creativity, laughter, and the love she poured into her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the art she created, the adventures she inspired, and the countless memories shared by those fortunate enough to know her.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved. A small graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox, MA, at 1 pm on Wednesday, July 1st.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the “Special Activities Dept” at Ocean Meadow in Edith Deeg’s name, Attn. Doreen Converse. The Ocean Meadow staff lovingly cared for Edith’s every need with tender dedicated care for over a year. We are so grateful to every one of them.
