Edwin Everett Markham, Jr.

Edwin E. Markham, Jr., “Ted”, 78, a resident of Pittsfield for the past several years, passed away late Saturday, June 25, 2022.

A native of the Berkshires, Ted was born in Gt. Barrington on September 21, 1943, the son of the late Edwin E. Markham, Sr. and Marjorie L. (Baker) Markham.

Ted enlisted in the Navy at the young age of 17 and after four years, he decided to make it his career. During his years with the Navy, his travels took him to many destinations, including Vietnam.

After twenty years and upon his retirement from the Navy, he and his family returned to the Berkshires, reuniting him with members of his extended family. He put his love of family first, raising his three boys, spending time with loved ones, and enjoying cooking great meals. Ted was artistically talented as a young man. While he was in the military, he took courses offered by the Chicago School of Art, and toward the end of his Navy career, he was recognized as an accomplished artist. He pursued this talent and later in life, he became known in international circles as a fine artist in aviation and historical drawings and paintings.

Ted leaves behind his three sons: Andrew J. (Carmen) Markham, of Clearwater, FL, Edwin E. Markham III, of Gt. Barrington, and Charles J. Markham, of Lee. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Wyatt, Josie, and Travis Markham; several nieces, one remaining first cousin, Lynda Morse, with whom he grew up; his sister-in-law, Faith Snyder and her husband, Harry.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in life by his sister, Jane, and his wife, Virginia.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, July 5th, 10AM at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Housatonic.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA 01238.
