Eleanor “Ellie” Ann (Bartini) Baumann, 84, of Lee, Massachusetts, passed away on February 18th, surrounded by her loving family. Eleanor was the daughter of the late Emma (Gelpi) and William Bartini.
A lifelong resident of Lee, Eleanor was an active and well-known member of her community. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, a long-time member of the Sons of Italy, and worked as the town’s Assistant Tax Collector for 32 years. A tireless advocate for people with special needs, Eleanor was a founding member of the family support and advocacy committee with BFair, which developed a variety of family assistance and community support programs and services for individuals with special needs throughout Berkshire County. These programs are still in place, and growing, today.
Ellie was best known for her relentless kindness, generosity, and caring nature; typically putting others’ needs ahead of her own. Everyone who entered her home felt welcomed, and certainly never left hungry. She was a common staple on Lisa Bowers’ bus trips, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and never turned down a trip to the casino with Jerry and her friends. Every person who met Ellie adored her.
Eleanor leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Gerald “Jerry” Baumann, their three children, Jeffrey (Sandy) Baumann, Laurie (James) LoStocco, and Michael Baumann; grandchildren, Madeline “Maddie” LoStocco, Christina and Jeffrey Baumann, and great-grandson Christian Masciale; and her siblings, Madeline Briggs, Nancy Lynch, Ann Marie Collins, Sandra Brighenti, Mary “Mimi” Seward, and Robert “Bobby” Bartini. Eleanor is pre-deceased by her granddaughter (Nonna’s “little girl”) Nicole LoStocco, and her two brothers, William “Billy” Bartini and Jimmy Bartini.
A special thank you goes to the staff of Lee Healthcare at The Landing for their compassion and care in Eleanor’s final days.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 24th at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4-6 PM at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee.
