Mr. Ernest S. Hood, Sr, 91, of Otis, passed away in his sleep on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Landing at Laurel Lake.
Ernie was born in Otis on October 2, 1930, the son of Lester and Emma Greiner Hood. He was raised in Otis and graduated from Lee High School in 1948. Mr. Hood proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1960.
Ernie married the love of his life, the former Marion Gangloff, on October 4, 1958.
Mr. Hood was a heavy machine operator for Tryon Construction and Hebert Construction Companies for most of his life. In later years he worked as a mechanic at Butternut Basin. After his retirement, Ernie’s passion was working on his lathe producing beautifully handcrafted bowls which he sold at various craft fairs. Ernie also enjoyed collecting bells of all types and from all destinations.
Besides his wife, Marion Hood, Mr. Hood leaves behind his daughter, Laurie Puiia and her husband, Jerry, of Glastonbury, CT; his grandchildren: Christopher and Caitlyn Puiia and Matthew Hood; and numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally, Mr. Hood leaves behind his sister, Marilyn Galeucia, of Hinsdale, the last of his six siblings.
Mr. Hood was predeceased by his son, Ernest S. Hood, Jr, in 2018.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, from 2-4PM at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee. Burial will take place in the spring at the Otis Cemetery.
