It is with great sadness the family of Gelma Theresa Newton of Lee announce her peaceful passing at home on Friday, May 21, 2021. Born January 1, 1938, Gelma was the third child of Valentino Sabatino and Angela Maria (Petruzziello) DiPietro of Pittsfield.
Gelma will be lovingly remembered by her children Linda Collins, Donna (Gary) Lagarce, Robert (Maryann) Newton, daughter in law Kelli Piacquadio, her eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, along with her sister Dina Callahan and brother George (Shelley) DiPietro. She is predeceased by her son William “Billy” Newton, great grandson Luca Lagarce, former spouse William E. Newton, and brothers Nino DiPietro and Italo DiPietro.
Gelma was a 1955 graduate of Saint Joseph’s high school in Pittsfield and enjoyed a lifelong career and retirement from within the finance department at Kay-Bee Toys in Pittsfield. For many years Gelma was also a member of the Italian American club where she held the position of Treasurer.
Gelma always enjoyed line dancing, bowling, reading and puzzles, and was an avid Jeopardy fan. Her greatest enjoyment came from playing the piano and the endless love she gave as a devoted mother and grandmother.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 27th, at 11 AM at Fairmount Cemetery in Lee. Visiting Hours will be prior from 9-10:30 AM at the Kelly Funeral Home.
Face masks and social distancing will be required for the Visiting Hours. We ask that people enter through the Main Street entrance in the front of the building and exit through our parking lot door.
