Hilda "Betty" Frissell Obituary

Hilda “Betty” Beatrice Frissell (1922-2021) passed away at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA on April 16, 2021 surrounded by her loving family after a short illness. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Philip and Gladys Mary Kinnish-Salmon. Betty is survived by her brother, Philip A. Salmon of Brooklyn, New York and her sister Joyce, G. Cochran of Orlando, Fl. She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Frissell of Lee, MA, Nancy Frissell Spencer (Keith) of Becket, MA, and Evelyn Pepicelli (Warren) of North Easton, MA. She is also survived by her grandsons, Colin Mackie of Becket, MA and Alex Pepicelli (Taylor) of Winthrop, MA. She was born in December 1922 in Liverpool, England and was raised in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from high school, Betty attended night school at Columbia University where she studied journalism. Betty worked in the Account Management Department at Riegel Paper Corporation, New York, NY. After marrying her late husband Charles E. Frissell in 1952, she moved to the Berkshires, where she lived up until her death.

Betty will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother. She worked as a secretary and in home health care. She was a communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church, Lenox, MA. Betty volunteered at the Berkshire Botanical Garden and the Bluebird House in Stockbridge, MA. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Betty had many varied interests, including music, local and international events, cultural arts and genealogy. She enjoyed writing and visiting sites from home. After retirement, Betty spent time walking, hiking and just enjoying life with her two grandsons. She celebrated her 90th birthday with a hike up Monument Mountain in Great Barrington, MA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be sent to: St. John the Divine at 1047 Amsterdam Ave. at 112th Street, New York, NY 10025 care of the Pastoral Services Department or email pastoralcare@stdivine.org and/or to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD. 20852. A private memorial service will be held with family on May 24th. Her remains will be interred along with her husband’s at Fairmont Cemetery in Lee, MA on this date.
