Howard Carl Hofer

Howard Carl Hofer, a lifelong resident of West Hartford, CT passed away surrounded by his family on May 23, 2024. He was born in Hartford CT in 1930 to Carl and Eleanor Hofer of West Hartford. 

Howard attended West Hartford schools before graduating  from the University of Hartford School of Art. He perfected his photography skills at Paier College and traveled throughout New England photographing historic churches and New England scenes.  While working for the Aetna Insurance Company, he continued painting and was awarded the "best in show" prize for his abstract watercolor paintings at the combined exhibitions of the Connecticut Watercolor Society and the Connecticut Society of Fine Arts.  Though he no longer showed in exhibitions or participated in juried shows, he continued painting until he passed. He was an accomplished accordion player and also enjoyed rollerskating and ballroom dancing. 

Howard was preceded in death by his brother Herbert Frederick Hofer and is survived by his twin sister Jane Kettendorf.  He also leaves his devoted nephew and caregiver Stephen Carl Hofer of Blandford, MA plus many nieces, nephews and friends.

Private services with internment at the Hofer gravesite in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford, CT on June 3rd at 11:30AM.  Celebration of Howard’s life will be held at a future date.
