Ingrid Richardson Obituary

Ingrid B. Richardson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Berkshire Medical Center at the age of 89, having spent her last day surrounded by friends and family. She was born in Brooklyn NY on November 27, 1934 and was raised by loving parents Severin and Gustava Barmen in Staten Island, NY. She also lived in Norway for a year at age 12, and was proud of her Norwegian ancestry.
Ingrid attended Wagner College in Staten Island where she studied music; she sang in church choirs and community choruses for the rest of her life. Following college, Ingrid worked in the New York City Insurance industry where she met her second husband (her first marriage ended in divorce) and true love of her life, Ted Richardson in 1965. They married on December 4, 1965 and lived in Fort Lee, NJ, Quogue, NY and wintered in Otis, MA to pursue their love of downhill skiing. In 1991, they moved to Richmond, MA year round where they resided until Ted’s death in 2004. Following Ted’s passing, Ingrid moved to South Pond Farm where she continued their memberships in the Stockbridge and Pittsfield Country Clubs.
Ted and Ingrid loved to travel especially on cruises and to Caneel Bay in the Virgin Islands where they enjoyed 20 wonderful years of winter vacations with friends. Ingrid loved the Berkshires, golden retrievers, puzzles, eating out, gardening and travel. Ingrid also loved tennis but her passion was singing. She sang in the summer Berkshire Choral Festival for 21 years, and joined the Stockbridge Festival Chorus (SFC) in 1995. She remained a leader in the SFC soprano section and its President until 2022. Besides singing, she supported Berkshire Music School’s scholarship program for a number of years and served one term on its Board; she also volunteered at the Norman Rockwell Museum, all of which brought much happiness and many lasting friendships.
Ingrid is survived by her daughter Ann R. Fiteni and her husband Joseph of Wilton, CT; grandchildren J.P. and Andrew; daughter in laws Carrie and Adrienne; and great grandchildren Layla, Jacob and Charles. She is predeceased by her parents Severin and Gustava Barmen, and her husband Ted Richardson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 3, 2024 at the First Congregational Church of Stockbridge at 10:30 am. A lunch reception will be held at the Country Club of Pittsfield immediately following the celebration.
