Jean Ann (Naventi ) Collins, 84, passed away at Lee Healthcare on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, after a long illness.
Born March 25, 1939, to Henry “Rico” and Helen (Murray) Naventi, Jean developed her love of gardening and animals by following her father around the dairy farm on Fairview Street. She attended Lee Public Schools, graduating from Lee High School in 1957. She married William Michael Collins on October 31, 1959, at Saint Mary’s Church. Michael always said Jean was the best thing that ever happened to him. Together they built a home where she was queen of their beautiful hilltop. She was a beloved wife, mother, mother in law, grandmother, grandmother in law, and great grandmother.
Jean was a talented artist and a clever, practical problem solver. An accomplished seamstress with an eye for color and detail, she was also a self-taught dog groomer who ran a successful business out of her home for over 30 years. Jean was particularly proud that her work helped fund her daughters’ college educations. In retirement, she found pleasure tending to her flower gardens and being with her husband, daughters, sons in law, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The best kind of stubborn and always the hardest worker and most organized person in the room, Jean was a force of nature who faced challenges with resilience and determination. A great cook, she was happiest with her family gathered around the table for a meal. Now when we make her recipes, we will add memories of her love and laughter. We will miss how easily she could laugh at herself.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, brother Jack and sister Shirley as well as her husband of 63 years, who died February 19, 2023. Her heart broke that day, but now there is comfort in knowing she is reunited with her Michael and their poodle. Rest in peace Mom, Mrs. C., Nana and Nana 1.
She is survived by her daughters Kelly Cummings (Brian), Kerry Burke (Raymond), and Katherine Murray (John); granddaughters Maura Jean Stanton (William) and Alison Helen Murray (Madeline); great grandsons Jasper Michael and Miles James Stanton.
The family is very grateful to the staff of Lee Healthcare and Hospice Care of the Berkshires for the care and comfort Jean received.
There is a gathering for family and friends at 10 am at Kelly Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 28, with a graveside service at 11 am at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jean’s memory to the Lee Middle and High School Art Department c/o Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA, 01238.
