Obituary

It is with profound respect and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a true gentleman, John Thadeus Morawiec, known to many as "Josh." Born on a crisp January morning in the year 1943 in the charming town of Chicopee, Massachusetts, Josh's journey of life unfolded with extraordinary moments that would leave an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to cross his path.

As the firstborn of John "Kaki" Morawiec and Stephanie "Tessie" (Piotrowski) Morawiec, Josh was destined to be a guiding light in a family of four siblings. The families’ journey led them to the picturesque haven of Lee in 1952, where the Morawiec family embarked on an endeavor of spirit and enterprise, owning, and tending to the Here U-R Inn. Young Josh displayed a tenacity beyond his years, swiftly ascending to the role of head dishwasher, his commitment and diligence setting the stage for the chapters that were yet to unfold.

He was educated at St. Mary's Elementary and was a 1960 graduate of Lee High School., He displayed his prowess on the golf course, forging not only a skill but a lifelong love for the sport that would accompany him through the journey of his days.

He was a Sergeant in the National Guard. He exchanged vows with his high school sweetheart, JoAnn Fraval, in the year 1965. United in love, they embarked on a journey that would be adorned with the arrival of their children, John, and Janine, completing their family.

Most days of his adult life Josh could be found with a pencil behind his ear. Either as a union carpenter for over 40 years, a member of the Stockbridge Golf Club, or trackside at Saratoga. As a skilled carpenter he built his own house with his own two massive hands and the help of his many friends and family. As a member of the Stockbridge Golf Club, he served on the Board of Governors and was a longtime chairman of the Men’s Tournament Committee. He was instrumental in not only co-founding the Tennagoma Cup but ensuring that it be inclusive of golfers of all skill levels.

If you were a kid who grew up in Lee in the 80’s the truth can now be told. There was a reason why Mr. Morawiec and Santa Claus were never seen in the same room together. On those occasions it was hard to tell who was more joyful, Santa or the kids.

He is survived by his wife JoAnn, son John (Tiffany) of Kansas, daughter Janine Cormier of Georgia, grandchildren Tyler Cormier, Jodi & Krystyna Morawiec, siblings Thomas P. Morawiec of Lee, (Donna (deceased)) Christine Williamson of Lee, (Stuart) Michael J. Morawiec (Rhona) of Georgia and his many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family would encourage you to make donations in Josh’s name to the Jimmy Fund, The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund or the Mike Rowe WORKS Foundation. Checks written out to the above charities may be mailed in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.

There will be no calling hours, funeral services will be held Tuesday August 22, 2023, 10:00 at St Mary’s church in Lee, immediately followed by a reception at The Locker Room.
