Joseph F. (Joe) DuPont, 77, of Lee passed away at his home on March 13, 2022. Born on July 6, 1944 in Flushing, NY, son of Roland F. and Mary Suchocki DuPont, he moved to Lee as a child, and attended St. Mary’s School, St. Joseph’s High School and Berkshire Community College.
Joe is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Patricia (Cora) DuPont; his two children, Lisa Wills of Vernon, CT, and Joseph R. DuPont and his wife Denise of Cumming, GA. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Sara and Michael Wills, and Kaylee, Payton and Nina DuPont; and his brother and sister, Gerald DuPont of Coxsackie, NY, and Marilyn Chiaretta of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by two brothers, Philip DuPont and A. Roland DuPont.
Joe was employed for many years as a mechanical engineer by the former Clark-Aiken Co. in Lee and Beloit Corporation Jones Division in Dalton, and later as a purchasing specialist at Crane Paper Company. A talented artist, his true passion was his business, Lee Sign Service, which he operated for more than 50 years.
Joe was a member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus and was active in town politics, serving on both the Lee Board of Selectmen and Planning Board. He enjoyed bowling and golf, and was a fan of NASCAR racing, especially Jeff Gordon. His favorite hobby was working on his classic cars.
The family expresses their sincere thanks to those who cared for Joe, allowing him to remain at home with his family.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 18th, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, with a prayer service following at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Spring Street, Lee. The family asks that masks be worn at the funeral home.
