Joseph G. Vosit, loving husband, father, brother, and Papa, passed away the evening of September 17, 2022, at his daughter’s home in Lee, Massachusetts, surrounded by family.
Joseph was born in Chicago on February 9, 1942 to his parents Joseph Wojtaszczyk and Marion Romanek. He grew up alongside his two sisters, Marion Wronski and Barbara Skryd. While attending Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy, he met his lifelong wife of 56 years, Elaine M. Vosit. On February 7, 1965, they got married in Naperville, Illinois.
After receiving his law degree from John Marshall law school, Joseph moved to Berkshire County in 1972, where his wife Elaine worked alongside him throughout his 47 year-long career. Joseph dedicated a large portion of his career to advocating for indigent men and women in need of representation, where he built a reputation as a kind and generous lawyer, a path that his daughter followed shortly after. Together they raised their two beautiful daughters Dr. Julie V. Steller and Atty. Amy E. Winston in Lenox, Massachusetts.
Dr. Julie V. Steller has three sons -- Graeme, Ian, and Davis. Atty. Amy E. Winston has five children -- Joseph, Katherine, Sarah, Homer, and Elliot. Joseph is survived by all of his adoring grandchildren, his sisters, and his daughters. His love will continue to connect them all.
Devoted husband, father, brother, and Papa. Dog lover of his beloved Nutmeg and Gus. Compassionate, witty, loving, kind, and above all else, the coolest guy in any room. He was the perfect grandfather, loved music, movies, food, and working outside, an undefeated chess champion, and an expert shopper.
Although he may no longer be here to guide us, he will remain a pillar to his family for the rest of their lives. No matter what lies ahead, we will never stop looking to our Joseph, our dad, our Papa, for guidance and love as we navigate the highs and lows that life throws at us.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Lee on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 10AM. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Pittsfield.
