Mrs. Julia Bellefontaine, 87, of Pittsfield, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Julia was born April 4, 1936 in Eastport, ME to Walter and Agnes (Warren) Dinsmore. She was raised and educated in Machias, ME, graduating from the Oak Grove School in 1954. Julia attended the University of Maine, Orono where she received her Master of Mathematics degree, Phi Beta Kappa.
Following college, Julia started her career at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory as a systems analyst. She then taught mathematics in Maine while her husband, Eric Bellefontaine, whom she married in 1964, was in graduate school.
Mrs. Bellefontaine and her husband relocated to the Berkshires in the mid 1960’s, putting her career on hold for a few years to raise her children. She then returned to work in 1973 as a systems analyst at G.E. where she retired from after 19 years of service.
Julia was a member of the D.A.R. Hannah Weston Chapter in Machias, ME. She enjoyed researching genealogy with her daughter Danna, spending many hours on Ancestry. Mrs. Bellefontaine was active in the Audubon Society and was the coordinator of the annual Loon count in Washington County, ME. Perhaps one of her greatest loves was spending her summers with her husband and family at their camp on Bog Lake in Northfield, ME.
Besides her husband, Eric Bellefontaine, Julia leaves behind her daughter, Danna Snow and her husband, Brian, of Lee; her son, Eric Bellefontaine II and his wife, Kelly, of Pittsfield; her six grandchildren: Jonathan, Benjamin, Katrina, Daniel, Brenna and Jack; and her three great-grandchildren: Emilia, Henry, and Brody. In addition she leaves behind several cousins and many good friends.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Julia Bellefontaine will be held on Saturday, October 14, 11AM at the First Congregational Church in Lee, MA. Visiting Hours will be held Friday evening, 4 to 6PM at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee. Burial will be at a later date in the family plot in Machiasport, ME.
