Margaret Daley Obituary

Margaret M. Daley of Lee passed away on April 7th after a brief illness. At her passing, she was in her home surrounded by her entire family. Peggy was born on December 1, 1944. She was the daughter of Gertrude and Joseph Bevins Ford.  She was a graduate of Lee High School and St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, an honor she earned while raising three children. Peggy married Nelson Daley on July 14, 1962. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary.

She was a pediatric nurse at BMC for 37 years and upon retirement, was a substitute school nurse for Lee Public Schools as well as Farmington River School. Caring for children was Peggy’s true calling, and she impacted the lives of many throughout her professional and personal life. To this day, her family receives positive anecdotes about her long-lasting impact on the lives of children from those lucky enough to have benefited from her care.

She was a 30-year member of the Sons of Italy and volunteered for many years at the St. Mary’s School lunch program as well as for other school activities. When you walked into Peggy’s house, you could follow your nose into her kitchen where she was usually found cooking something delicious. She cooked with love and welcomed everyone to her table, always making sure that your favorite dish was represented.  She was not only generous with her cooking, but also with the wisdom and counsel that accompanied each meal.

Peggy was a lifelong learner and nurtured her artistic talent later in life. She shared her paintings with family and friends, as well as in local art shows. Her trademark soothing voice was a comfort to all who knew her. Peggy shook the world in the gentlest way.

Peggy was pre-deceased by her parents, brother Joseph Ford and sister Barbara Ford. She is survived by her adoring husband Nelson, her 4 children: Bob (Tish), Nelson (Leslie), Elaine (David) Consolati, and Jennifer; 9 grandchildren: Sean (Amanda), Justin (Jenna), Shamus (Kate), Niall (Jenna), Rachel, Joseph (Shelby), Susan (Travis), Emily, Matthew (Louis); as well as 11 great-grandchildren: Connor, Mason, Dominic, Lincoln, Morgan, Jaxon, Lydia, Trevor, Madelyn, Leon and Parker, her sister Jeanette Choquette, dedicated goddaughter Sharon Ford, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 13th at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Lee.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be Wednesday, April 12th from 4-6pm at Kelly Funeral Home in Lee.
