Mary (O'Brien) Garrity

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, who left an enduring legacy of love and devotion, on January 18, 2026. We extend our deepest gratitude to Cheryl Garrity, our sister, for her unwavering dedication and compassion, which profoundly impacted our mother’s life over the years. At the age of 84, our mother lived a fulfilling life and has now reunited with her parents, George Francis O’brien and Mary Victoria Pruhenski O’brien. As the eldest of five children, she was the last to pass into eternal peace. She is survived by five children: Catherine M. Garrity of Pittsfield, MA; Laura Garrity Weldon (Joseph Sr) of Noblesville, IN; Cheryl Garrity Rosenberg (Craig) of Tewksbury, MA; Charles H. Garrity (Brandon) of Springfield, MA and Patricia K. Garrity of Ft. Wayne, IN, along with 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Mary was born in Gt. Barrington, MA; she grew up in Lee, MA. She graduated from Lee High School and commenced her career as a secretary at Berkshire Life Insurance in Pittsfield, MA. She later co-founded a plumbing business with our father Charles Garrity in Lee, MA. Following their divorce she pursued careers as a housekeeper, caregiver, certified nursing assistant and patient advocate. We also acknowledge her loving partner, Francis Malumphy of Lee, MA.

While arrangements are still being finalized, plans for a spring celebration of life are underway. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to the American Lung Association or a charity of one’s choice, reflecting the values she held dear. May we honor her memory by extending blessings to others. Blessings to all who knew and loved her.
