Maureen (Cahill) Digan

Maureen M. (Cahill) Digan, 80, of Lee, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of The Divine Mercy on June 1, 2026.

Born on June 7, 1945, in Chestnut Hill, Brookline, Massachusetts, Maureen was the beloved wife of Deacon Robert "Bob" Digan. Her life was marked by profound faith, perseverance through suffering, and a steadfast trust in God's mercy.

Maureen was predeceased by her son, Bobby Digan, and her daughter, Mary Catherine, who was miscarried. She was also predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Mary B. (Barrett) Cahill of County Galway, Ireland; her brothers, Dennis M. Cahill, Patrick J. Cahill, and Thomas Cahill; her sisters-in-law, Patricia (Boland) Cahill, Lillian (Melchione) Cahill, and Rosalie; her sister, Florence (Cahill) Sullivan; her brother-in-law, Arthur Sullivan; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

For much of her life, Maureen endured tremendous physical suffering. Prior to her miraculous healing, she spent 11 years in hospitals and underwent more than 60 operations. In 1981, through the intercession of then Sister Faustina Kowalska, OLM, Maureen received a miraculous cure from Milroy’s lymphedema. Following extensive medical and ecclesiastical investigation, her healing was recognized by the Catholic Church as the miracle that led to Sister Faustina's beatification and was one of the miracles associated with her eventual canonization as Saint Faustina.

Though known throughout the world because of this extraordinary event, Maureen remained humble and deeply grateful. She dedicated herself to sharing the message of Divine Mercy and giving witness to God's love and compassion. Following her healing, Maureen and Bob traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Washington, D.C., including the Pentagon, and throughout Ireland, even visiting her parents' hometown in County Galway, sharing her testimony and inspiring countless people.

Maureen and Bob also shared their remarkable journey of faith and suffering through the DVD In the Name of Miracles and the forthcoming book Letters to Bobby, ensuring that their testimony would continue to inspire future generations.

Maureen served as Religious Education Coordinator at St. Mary's Parish in Lee. She also served as secretary to Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Roesch, MIC, who was then Rector of the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge and now serves as Superior General of the Congregation of Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception. Through her parish ministry, professional work, and personal witness, she touched the lives of many and helped spread devotion to The Divine Mercy.

While her life included moments of joy and blessing, it was also marked by suffering borne with remarkable faith and courage. Those who knew Maureen remember her warm heart, her Irish tenacity, her generosity, and her unwavering confidence in God's mercy.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 11, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Marian Fathers' Residence on Eden Hill in Stockbridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lee.

The family asks that all who remember Maureen honor her memory by trusting in The Divine Mercy and extending that mercy to others. "Jesus, I trust in You."
