Maxwell Pyenson Obituary

Maxwell Pyenson, 93, of 1603 Main Rd. in Otis, died Monday at his home. He was born in Otis on December 30, 1916 the son of David and Rebecca Golub Pyenson. He was educated in local schools, a graduate of Lee High School and received his B.S. and M.S. from Mass State, now the University of Mass where he was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. He taught Vocational Agriculture in West Springfield, and was an Extension Agent for the Jewish Agriculture Society in Ellenville, NY He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from Dec.1941 until Dec. 1945 in the 3rd Service Command Ordinance Division being discharged with the rank of Sergeant. After the service he joined his father and ran the Otis Poultry Farm and became owner in 1952. He was past President of Berkshire County Poultry Association, past Vice President of Berkshire Council Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Silver Beaver in 1958. He served as an Otis Selectman for 29 years and was chairman from 1974 until 1978. He was a Corperator, Trustee and member of the Board of Investors at Lee Bank. He was active in the Otis Kiwanis Club since its founding where he was former president and treasurer and former Lt. Governor of District 27. He was an ardent fisherman and gardener. He leaves his wife the former Audrey Yerman whom he married April 4, 1942 in Petersburg, VA. Five children; Steven Pyenson and his wife Joyce of Otis, Beth Abrams of Buffalo Grove, Ill, Sara Brommerich and her husband Carl of Fountain City Wisconsin, Andrew Pyenson and his wife Lynn of Otis and Jonathan Pyenson of Stockbridge. Eight grandchildren: Mark, Lisa, Jennifer, Robert, Rebecca, Michele, David and Dana and Eleven great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee on Thursday from 1pm until the time of the funeral which will be held at 3 pm at the Funeral Home with Rabbi Deborah Zecher and Rabbi Ari Rosenberg of Hevreh of Southern Berkshire officiating. Following the service the family will be sitting Shiva at the family home at 1603 No. Main Rd. in Otis from 4:30 to 8pm with a memorial service at 6:45pm conducted by Rabbi Zecher and Rabbi Rosenberg. Burial will be in the Spring at the Otis Cemetery with a Memorial Service to follow. In lieu of flowers friends wishing may make donations to the Otis Kiwanis Club or Boy Scouts of America in care of the Kelly Funeral Home 3 Main St. Lee, MA 01238
