Michael Armstrong Obituary

Michael Leo Armstrong, 75, of Lee, passed away on March 12, 2026 at Fairview Hospital surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born in Pittsfield on June 19,1950 to the late Leo Harding Armstrong and Mary Corrine Shultz. He grew up in Lenox, MA and was a 1968 graduate of Saint Joseph's High School and also attended Berkshire Community College. He married the love of his life Wendy Coons on October 4,1969, they would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this year.

Mike started his career at GE, then went to work for Mohawk Beverages for 23 years. Following that he briefly became a Liquor Salesman for Federal Distillers, then began to work at Mead Specialty Paper for over 20 years. He also loved working behind the bar, on Sundays,at the Morgan House in Lee, sharing stories with all his regulars. 

In his youth, Mike was a member of The Owls with several of his childhood friends. He was a board member of the Lee Youth Association, a member of the Lenox Lions Club and a proud member of the Brotherhood of Teamsters. He was an avid golfer and a member of Greenock Country Club. He loved golfing with friends and family.  He was a passionate fan of all the Boston teams. He enjoyed Nascar and several trips to Louden, Dover, and Phoenix with family to watch his favorite drivers. He was often found at Lebanon Valley Speedway, on Saturday nights, watching his Uncle Bill and Cousin Danny race. He enjoyed his annual trips to Saratoga putting a little wager on the horses with his brothers, Mark and Eddie. His most loved passion and favorite memories were his trips with his girls to Rhode Island and Delaware, as well as his time in Goose Rocks Beach, Maine with all of his siblings and their spouses. 

Mr. Armstrong is survived by his beloved wife, Wendy Armstrong of Lee; daughters Kimberly Jones (Robert) of Lee, and Kacie Armstrong of Lee; his adored granddaughter, Chloe Armstrong of Lee whom he shared an unbelievable bond with; his brothers, Douglas Armstrong (Ally), and Edward Armstrong (Nichelle); his sister, Maureen Tuggey (Rick); his sister-in-law Cindy Armstrong; brother-in-law Randy Coons (Kathy); sisters- in-law Beverly Pittman, and Shirley Kroboth Piché; and Fred Pittman, and Thomas Lampiasi, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Corrine Armstrong; his father and mother-in-law, Russell and Dolores Coons; his brother Mark Armstrong; nephew Shane Kroboth; and brother-in-law Mike Piché.  

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 20, 2026, 11AM at St. Mary’s Church, Lee. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Lenox Dale. Visiting hours at the Kelly Funeral Home will be from 4-6PM on Thursday evening. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Berkshire County, Shine at Elder Services of Berkshire County or the Supportive Day Program at Ralph J. Froio Senior Center.
