Obituary

          Michael H. Hayes, 93, of Franklin Street in Lee, passed peacefully Tuesday morning. 

          Born in Pittsfield on November 19, 1929, the son of Michael P. and Nora LaBrode Hayes.  He was educated in St. Mary’s School in Lee, graduated from Lee High School in 1947 and Berkshire Business School in 1948.

          Michael served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Proserpine as a Yeoman third class.  He went on to work for the Massachusetts Highway Department retiring as the Assistant District Director of Administrative Services District 1.  He also worked at Kelly Funeral Home for many years.  He was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s Church in Lee a member of the Berkshire Hills Knights of Columbus Council #314 and the Bishop Conaty Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

          Michael is survived by his wife, the former Sandra MacDonald whom he married in April 1992; a step son, Anthony Caropreso of Lee; two sisters in law: Sheila Heflin of Lee and Sharon MacDonald of Lee; his very special nieces and nephews and their families: Patrick (Denise), Timothy (Joanne), Michael (Kim), Mark (Rebecca), Kevin (Kris) Goggins, Maggie O’Brien, Kate (Tom) Parent, Peter J. (Nancy), Brian (Kate) Hayes, Tom (Cheryl) Pascucci, Amy (Chol) Gleason, Mary Eileen (John) Cook, John (Kerry) O’Hearn, Katherine Owens; along with many grandnieces and grandnephews.  He is predeceased by his twin brother, Peter D. Hayes; three sisters: Mary Goggins, Joan O’Hearn and Suzanne Pascucci; brothers in law: William Goggins, Brendon O’ Hearn and Robert Pascucci and a sister in law, Lily Feeney Hayes.

          A liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Jan 14th at 9:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lee.   There will be no Visiting Hours.  Friends wishing may make donations to St. Mary’s Church or St. Mary’s School in c/o the Kelly Funeral Home   3 Main Street   Lee, MA   01238.
