May 8, 1935 ~ April 10, 2024 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Norma Maroney Obituary

Norma E. Maroney (Heon), 88, of South Prospect Street in Lee, passed away Wednesday at her daughter’s home.

She was born in Springfield, MA on May 8, 1935, the daughter of  Nelson and Annette Dupuis Heon.  She grew up in West Springfield and graduated from West Springfield High School in 1953.

In 1955, Norma married William J. Maroney Jr, who predeceased her in 2013.  Upon moving to the Berkshires, Norma was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was a member of the choir, taught CCD, was a founding member of Friday night Bingo and was involved in numerous other church and school events.

Norma was the Director of the Lee Council on Aging for 33 years, retiring in 2012. During this time she helped numerous members of the community.  Norma was happiest when she was with her family, whether it was on vacation at the Cape, Sunday night dinners, hanging by the pool or playing Pitch.  She was a member of Greenock Country Club and loved playing in the Thursday night Ladies League.  She was an avid reader and patron of the Lee Library.

Norma leaves behind her four sons: William J. Maroney III and his wife Deborah of Lee, Kevin N. Maroney and his wife Loraine of Lee, Martin E. Maroney and his wife Tess of  New York, Michael L. Maroney and his wife Shelli of Lee;  two daughters: Kas E. Maroney of Pittsfield and Theresa M. Hartman and her husband Gene of Lee.  She also leaves thirteen grandchildren: Kate, Kearston, Kevin Jr., Lori, Sara, Tim, Jeanette, Mary, Marytess, Sharon, Michael, Lauren and Joshua and twenty great-grandchildren. She also leaves her niece Anne Driscoll and her sons Sean and Liam; her niece Christine Boisse and her sister-in-law Joyce Heon. Along with her husband, she was predeceased by her grandson Roger W. Wilson, her brother Lester Heon, her sister Jeannine Hoves and her niece Lori Bartlett.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 19th at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Lee.   Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  There will be no Visiting Hours, per Norma’s wishes.  Friends wishing may make donations in her memory to the Lee Library Association, Hospice Care in the Berkshires or the Lee Food Pantry in c/o the Kelly Funeral Home,  3 Main Street,  Lee, MA  01238.
