Raymond Gangloff Obituary

Raymond Richard Gangloff, Sr (83) of Otis, MA, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed peacefully at home on June 10, 2025 surrounded by his family. Ray was born on February 4, 1942 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the youngest of five children of Frank Gangloff and Stella Drzeweicka. He spent his childhood in Thomaston, CT.

After the death of his parents, he moved to Otis, MA where he lived with his sister, Marion Hood. He graduated from Lee High School in 1961. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and served for six years. While living in Otis, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Erbe. They were married in 1964 and would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on June 20th.

Ray and Carolyn settled in Harwinton, CT and raised their two sons. He was a cable splicer and installer for SNET for 33 years. Ray was a member of the Harwinton Fire Department. He belonged to the Thomaston Fish and Game Club. Prior to his declining health, Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling and woodworking in CT and the Berkshires. He was also a huge fan of NASCAR racing. Some of his happiest times were spent on the baseball field and basketball court coaching and cheering on his sons.

Ray and his family enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod and in Florida. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren at Disney World.

Ray and Carolyn returned to Otis, MA where they enjoyed their retirement for the last 22 years. They loved entertaining and spending time with their grandchildren on Benton Pond.

Ray was predeceased by his brother Francis Gangloff, and his sister Marion Hood.

In addition to his beloved wife, Ray is survived by his two sons Raymond Richard (Heather) and David Scott (Alexandra) and his precious grandchildren Alison and Jack. He also leaves behind his sisters Lois Butteri and Harriet Knox, as well as multiple cousins.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to Ray's long-term caregiver, Lavry. His compassion, patience, gentleness and caring will never be forgotten.

Per Ray's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A private burial will be held at Otis Cemetery.
