Mr. Richard O. “Hoppy” Loring, 85, of Tyringham, passed away on Thursday, October, 26, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center, with family at his side.
Hoppy was born November 11, 1937, the son of Harry and Olive Miner Loring. He was raised in Tyringham and educated locally.
After he graduated high school he joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
He married the former Dorothy Crandall in 1955. She passed away this past June.
Hoppy was greatly involved in the Town of Tyringham including being in charge of the highway department for 25 years, constable, longtime member of the fire department, and was also the cemetery sexton for many years. In addition, Hoppy was a stonemason, handyman and a Tyringham fixture.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, he was predeceased by his son Ricky and his granddaughter Amy.
Hoppy is survived by his daughter, Debrah Hall; his son, Edward Loring and his wife Marion; and his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Mr. Richard O. “Hoppy” Loring will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023, 10AM at the Tyringham Union Church. Burial will follow in the Tyringham Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held Wednesday evening, 4-6PM at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee.
In lieu of flowers donations in Hoppy’s memory would be appreciated to the Tyringham Fire Dept., of which he was a member for many years. Checks payable to the Tyringham Fire Dept. may be mailed in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
