Sandra “Sandy” Drumm Townsend of Lee, died peacefully Monday, August 17 at Kimball Farms in Lenox where she formed many fond relationships with staff and fellow residents.
She was born January 1st, 1941 in Lee to Ethel and Earl Drumm, she was the youngest in her family. Also affectionately known as “Chet” by those closest to her. Sandy spent much of her life on October Mountain and grew up in what is now the October Mountain State Forest. She loved animals and nature and would often help critters in need.
On September 17, 1959 Sandy married the love of her life, Philip F. Townsend Sr. Mrs.Townsend helped manage and run various service stations in the area with her husband and sponsored local youth sports teams throughout the years. Sandy enjoyed going on car rides with her family throughout Berkshire County. She had a passion for “treasure hunting” and spent many weekends going to tag sales with family and friends. She worked through the ranks in karate, enjoyed going for walks with her dogs at Woods Pond and October Mountain Camp Grounds, and planted the most beautiful gardens.
Sandy leaves behind her son, Phil Townsend Jr. and his wife, Roberta Townsend; her granddaughter, Becky Poliquin and her husband, Adam; great-grandchildren Riley and Abigail; and her grandson, Bryan Townsend and his fiance, Andrea Kirby.
She was greeted by her beloved husband, Phil Townsend Sr, her son Jesse Townsend, all of her siblings, and her parents.
Services for Mrs.Townsend will be held privately by the family.
