Vinton James Withers, 78, of Becket, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on December 6, 2025. Born in Pittsfield on September 11, 1947, to Franklyn and Maritta Withers , Vinton was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend whose warmth and humor touched countless lives.
Vint attended Bridgewater State University and Berkshire Community College, where he proudly belonged to the TKB fraternity (Tappa Kega Beer!), Vint built a distinguished career as a skilled machinist. He traveled extensively with Clark Aiken Corporation before joining Crescent Paper Corporation and later establishing his own Curmudgeon Car Service, a venture that perfectly captured his spirited personality, where he freely shared his wisdom, views (political or not!)
Vint was a man of cherished routines and passions. He was a fixture at Joe’s Diner for daily breakfasts, a devoted New York Yankees fan, and an avid reader. For many years, he spent many happy times deer hunting at the family camp in Upton, Maine – a place he helped build, creating lasting memories with those he loved.
Vint was a natural storyteller who possessed the rare gift of making everyone around him laugh. His tales and infectious humor created bonds that will endure long beyond his passing.
He is survived by his brothers Mark (Rhoda), Glenn (Sally), Matt (Michelle), and Steve (Nikki); sisters Kathy (Lloyd), and Debra; cherished nieces and nephews Judi Winters, Staci Barrett, Adam Walsh , Brendan Walsh, Lucas Withers, Kayla Brazeau, Gavin Withers and Kris Herlihy; and special friend Dick James.
Vint was predeceased by his parents and beloved sister Mary Rathbun.
